A place that rests in nature, offering a mature roof for protection and an open floor space for intellectual and spiritual flows. Upashray, in Jain Religion, means a place for monks to rest, stay, meditate, and worship.
Located in Manipur, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, the building is an extension of an existing temple designed to host monks and provide a flexible worship space for the community, apart from the Mandir itself.
Creating a building that reflects openness, transparency, protection, and tradition, the strong roof atop a transparent facade, using recycled old traditional doors, brings all these aspects together.
